Local Midwife Fanta - Inspiring Confidence

In a culture where age is revered, Fanta, still in her twenties, has won the confidence of the women in the community, not only from her own Moussi tribe, but also from the often aloof Fulani tribe. Within months of the midwifery training organised by AMURT Fanta was regularly delivering as many babies as some of the most experienced midwives in the project area.

She is a rare and inspiring example of what this neglected area needs more than anything else: a leader and role model for other young women.
