Japan Tsunami Appeal

Members of AMURT are in the coastal town of Sendai, following the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and 10 meter high tsunami wave that hit north-eastern Japan at 2.46pm on Friday March 11. Thousands of people have died and hundreds of thousands are affected - we are serving the most vulnerable, internally displaced people in the refugee centres managed by the local authorities. The local authorities’ resources are vastly overstretched and there are long queues for food, water and fuel.

Our AMURT team in Japan is dedicated and committed to providing necessary services to the refugees lacking basic human needs. One of our immediate and urgent plans is to help elderly people clean out their homes, so that they can move back home, and to provide counselling to victims living in the shelters.

At the present time AMURT is focusing its relief efforts in Sendai and Tagajo city both areas significantly destroyed by the Tsunami. AMURT will also be working in areas near the Fukushima nuclear plant to assist the elderly and sick who have remained desperately isolated in the 20 to 30 km danger zone, and are who are still waiting to qualify for evacuation but are unable to receive help because of the risks of entering that area. Apart from basic humanitarian aid, AMURT homeopaths are ready to dispense homeopathic remedies to minimize the negative effects of radiation exposure. We can also treat the tremendous anxiety that this health hazard has created in the minds of the locals.
