Ghana Seva Clinic Expands

The 13 newly trained health promoters
Expanded Health Outreach Programme
Earlier in 2007, AMURT and the Seva Clinic expanded the health outreach programme and initiated a new exciting project to train health promoters in the villages. The goal is to localise knowledge so that the health education in schools and communities can be ongoing and not depend on visitors and overseas volunteers.
We are starting with a group of 13 determined women, each chosen by the women in their village through a selection process. The program has been given the name 'Kekeli', which means brightness. The slogan of the program is ‘women together for health and development”. The training is finished and the graduation ceremony took place in April. An eighty page manual has been prepared and translated into Ewe (the local language), and a copy will be given to each of the candidates.
We are very excited about this programme as it has the true potential to take our community health work to a whole new level. Initially the emphasis will be on health education and prevention, but if things go well, the women will learn further skills to enable them to meet the health needs of their communities.
