One of AMURT’s great strengths is its people. Its people are concerned citizens attracted by the AMURT principle that compassion for everyone and everything is the starting point of relief and development. Many are full-time volunteers who provide thousands of hours of volunteer time to keep our administrative costs low. Contact us if you wish to know more about our volunteer placements.

We need Volunteers for the following Projects:

1) AMURT Midwifery Project - Burkina Faso

We are currently looking for experienced midwives, preferably with a working knowledge of French and some experience of working in developing countries. Visits would be just for a couple of weeks doing training sessions for our community midwives.

Volunteers would need to pay their own ticket there, but basic food and accomodation, as well as transport to/from Deou/Ouagadougou would be provided.

2) Water Project - Ghana

We would be really happy to receive enthusiastic civil engineers or appropriately experienced volunteers. We are particularly interested in people with professional experience of water projects, and preferably with experience from developing countries.

We are looking for experts in the following topics:

  • PVC pipe networks, hydraulics
  • water quality
  • filtration, particularly slow sand filtration
  • small dams, and dike construction
  • structural engineers, to help with issues of concrete structures that hold water

If you are qualified and have experience with management issues, your skills would also be most welcome. We need people to assist the communities in taking further ownership of the project and its management.

3) Community Health Clinics in Ghana

Mafi Seva Clinic (Volta Region), Domeabra Clinic (Greater Accra Region), Akwakwaa Clinic (Central Region)

We are looking for qualified nurses, doctors, midwives, or nurse-/medical students. Assignments include training of local staff, but also seeing patients, conducting day-clinics, health outreach programmes etc. Mafi Seva Clinic can take 2 volunteers at any time, and the other two AMURTEL clinics can take 4.

4) Neohumanist School Ghana (Ejura, Ashanti Region)

The school caters for children from nursery, primary to JSS 2 (7-8th grade) We need volunteers for teaching children. Although you will work alongside teachers from the community, most often volunteers are expected to plan, teach, assess, and evaluate their own  classes with very little guidance.
